“Since everything I need is on the internet I don’t need books.” When I hear that the only thing that comes to my mind is how people can be corrupted by technology that they can’t go back to where it all started. What I mean by that is when we were younger we used to be obsessed over books we use to go crazy waiting for a new series to come out. Since everything that we need is on the internet we feel as though we don’t need books. Part of that could be because most of us don’t have the time to go to the library go through a list of books and find the information that we need. The internet makes that very easy for us because everything that we need is at the tip of our fingers. If we need a certain information then it’s there with in sec. So therefore many people find that very convenient and easy because we don’t have to spend hours and hours looking through a book to find something. As great as that sounds that could be bad too because the internet has became a place for anyone to crate anything they please. Many websites that you think seem and look so true aren’t the information that they give you are made up and it’s not a reliable source. Also it’s hard to know which website is true or not because they make it so that you won’t know what true or not. So therefore going through books might not be the most convenient way to go but you are guaranteed that the information is correct.
You are correct that not everything on the Internet is true. However, that is also true for the information you find in books and magazines. The difference is that because we have been using books and magazines for so long we can pick up on the clues better that let us know information in a book might be incorrect. It is harder to pick up on these clues when you are online because we haven't had as much experience doing that.
ReplyDeleteYou are also correct that the Internet is convenient and easy - which is part of what makes it great. It definitely has its place, but I don't think it can replace print resources like books.
There are two other reasons why we still need books even though there is the Internet: First - not everything on the Internet is free. Sometimes you have to pay a membership fee or a fee to see certain information online. If you don't have money that limits what you can get on the Internet. Second - Even though the Internet is huge, there are still lots and lots of books and other items that do not exist on the Internet. Until someone scans these items, or re-types them, they will only exist in print format.
